Founded in 1859, the Missouri Botanical Garden is one of the oldest botanical institutions in the United States. Spend the day wandering over seventy-nine acres of botanicals along with the many indoor
displays. A 35 minute drive from the hotel.
This 1,371 acre park was the location of the 1904 Worlds Fair. Wander the
grounds and visit the many attractions located here including, the St. Louis Art Museum (free on Fridays), the Missouri History Museum, the St. Louis Science Center and the St.Louis Zoo where admission is always free. Driving time is 30 minutes
The wine trail is a two lane highway that runs along side the Missouri River between Defiance and Augusta. There are a half dozen wineries along that route. Sample some Missouri vintages, enjoy some food and take in the lovely scenery. Our favorite view is from the Montelle winery high up on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River Valley. Defiance is about a 30 minute drive from the hotel.
Visit the museum under the Arch and trace the story of the Native Americans, explorers, pioneers, and rebels who made America possible. Featuring six themed exhibit areas, this innovative and interactive museum celebrates America’s pioneering spirit. The Old Courthouse is adjacent to the arch grounds. It is a beautifully restored federal courthouse. The site of several pivotal cases, the Old Courthouse is where the enslaved Dred and Harriet Scott sued for their freedom and Virginia Minor fought for women’s
right to vote. A 35 minute drive from the hotel.
